NOTE: Cafe Sofi is now doing takeaway.
Glistening in black subway tiles, industrial lighting and sea-bleached beachy tones, the family-friendly Café Sofi has opened in Helensvale.
With the Gold Coast expanding rapidly, new suburbs are popping up all around the northern fringes. The Surrounds, southeast of central Helensvale, is one of these. At its core is a shining new $4 million Leisure Centre including a pool and gym for residents of the estate, with Café Sofi on a southern corner of the centre overlooking an extensive grassed area and age-appropriate children’s playground open to all Gold Coast locals.
Café Manager Ingrid Gill tells us that the café is used by locals of different ages and nationalities, car clubs and interest groups who want a spacious airy venue to meet over a meal or coffee.
Owned by Tony and Sophie and Tony Whiteley (hence its name), seasoned owner operators of the View Café at the Hinze Dam, the café runs an ‘all day’ menu during the week and separate breakfast and lunch menus on the weekend.
“Café Sofi is sure to capture the hearts and appease the hunger of The Surrounds community with a tasty yet healthy offering of delicious homemade delights, made on premises by our chefs from the freshest locally sourced ingredients,” said Tony.
Café Sofi’s menu features staple dishes and crowd-pleasing favourites that focus on healthy local ingredients: Free range eggs your way with smoked bacon, field mushrooms, sausage and roasted sumac tomatoes on organic sourdough toast; the Purple Bagel topped with beetroot hummus and sides of haloumi and field mushrooms, accompanied by a coffee – The Cat’s Pyjamas by Seven Mile Coffee Roasters, loose leaf tea, or dairy-free fruit smoothies that are the perfect cool down for a hot summer’s day. Sauces such as homemade hollandaise on the Eggs Bene and tomato relish on the Brekkie Burger are homemade.
Dishes in the Lunch menu delve into hearty territory, including Fish and chips, three burgers including the Chicken and Bacon Burger stuffed full of salad and avocado with a side of chips, and homemade pizza.
“The outlook at the café is spectacular,” Tony says, “with diners able to relax inside or alfresco and enjoy the beautiful view and grassy expanses the location provides.”
Sparkling fresh and inviting with floor to ceiling glass overlooking lush gardens, the playground and pool, this café is a community hub where locals can grab a coffee to go on the way to work, stop after a walk along nearby trails, catch up over a meal to read the paper and meet other residents, enjoy coffee and cake as they watch as their children play, or enjoy a family celebration, with children’s menu items included on the menu.
Whatever your reasons to visit Café Sofi, you’ll be greeted warmly and find that the café has something for everyone.
