Coda Bar and Dining

If you’ve been out on the town in Broadbeach, maybe to a club or show, and then the munchies come calling, it can be a task to find something to eat late at night other than fast food.

Fret no more! Fortunately, Coda Bar & Dining has come to the rescue, their kitchen open until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

Chef Tim Huijs, the original owner of Don’t Gnocc It, renowned for his sensationally delicious gnocchi, is now at the helm of the next door venue, Coda Bar, under the Phoenician.

With a long intimate bar slung back along one wall of the dining room, Coda is an intimate bar that suits date night or a sneaky cocktail. There are dining choices: sit solo at the well-stocked bar to watch the mixologist in action, dine in intimate seclusion indoors to give your partner your full attention, or book a table in the alfresco area where you can catch the street action.

Food is best shared, and nowhere more so than at Coda. Order from a menu of quality Mediterranean-inspired dishes of varying sizes, including oysters, mussels, bruschetta, croquettes and tempura zucchini flowers in smaller plates, larger plates also suitable as mains.

From the dozen smaller plates, we can’t go past kingfish sashimi as a top summer dish, Coda’s dressed in a rich sesame sauce and topped with yuzu.

A charcuterie board of great quality Serano ham and other salumi is always good to share, Sicilian chilli king prawns with olives and cherry tomatoes in a white wine cream sauce is a different take, while a dish of traditional Italian meatballs in a chorizo napoli sauce is a little more substantial.

We love some of the larger dishes too, such as the tasty Marsala Chicken, its rich sauce complementing the chargrilled chicken perfectly. Served with broccolini and enoki mushrooms, it would make a complete meal, but caring is sharing, and whoever stops at one dish!

The barbecued free-range Pork cutlet is a treat too, dressed with spiced apple sauce and accompanied by slaw. Other choices include steaks, beef cheek, seafood linguini and salads.

If there’s one dish that will stand out in our memory, it’s the stunning Popcorn panna cotta, its flavour lingering after each bite. Served in a cocktail glass with caramel popcorn on top, don’t commit to sharing until you’ve tasted it!

Look out for specials on weekdays (check socials for details) or dine on the weekend for DJ moves from 9pm.

At least when you get those late night ‘hangries’ next time you’ll know where to satisfy your appetite!
