The LC

You know how it is…

You’re going out for lunch with a few people and one of them is vegan. You need to reconsider your venue because your chosen place is not a good fit.

Or maybe you are vegan, and feel like there are not enough options for you when dining out in a group?

Thank goodness the scene is changing on the Goldie, with lots more diversity and awareness for food intolerances and preferences.

Several years ago, a place like The LC would have seemed impossible. But, we’ve moved from Meat-Free Mondays to a full embrace, The LC providing a beautifully inclusive dining destination for everyone, vegan or not. It’s our first shiny new collective of plant-based restaurants and a bar, all housed under the one roof in a pretty white building in Miami.

With differing stores in the venue open seven days a week spanning breakfast until dinner, The LC (from Love Child’s Abbey Jones) has two levels. Five restaurants and a bar serving sustainably-produced beer and cocktails are located downstairs, a soon-to-be-opened second storey housing Lovechild Place clothing yet to come. Out the back is a dining deck punctuated by greenery where there’s live music on weekends, but we choose out front under cover, shaded from the sun.

We dine for brunch at 10.30 to find Flora By Greenhouse open, with Gigi Pizzeria, i like ramen and Burgers vs Kebabs opening from 11am until late, along with the bar.

No worries! It’s an excuse to take a look around, embarking on a plant-based feast in two steps; a true brunch.

Flora by Greenhouse, from the original Greenhouse Factory crew, serve Allpress coffee (made on your choice of a range of nut or soy milks), hot brekkies, sandwiches, salads, kombucha and freshly made juices. We order scrambled tofu with baked beans and hash browns, as well as waffles, rice paper bacon and a crispy hash topped with coconut-based ice cream and fresh strawberries. It’s a wonder!

First course done! Now onto our seconds…

i like ramen has been a market and popup vegan favourite for some time, and we’ve been hanging out to try their wakame-packed spicy ramen and sides. We get to meet the bearded chef (and his impersonation on the wall!) Besides the ramen, we’re particularly taken by their panko-crumbed mushrooms (and just manage to hold ourselves back from ordering a second serve) and the non-meat soy-based protein used in their ramen. Very tasty indeed!

There’s no room left for gluten-free pizza with vegan cheese or even gelato from Newtown-based sensation Gigi’s Pizzeria, nor for a seitan (think gluten steak) kebab or cheeseburger from BVK (Burgers vs Kebabs), brought to us by Abbey Jones.

Instead, we box up our leftovers and head off.

One thing’s for sure: We will be back with family to dine again, as vegan, gluten and dairy-free are part of our mob.

Even the Main Squeeze meat-eater is silent after a spicy ramen and tart, and he hasn’t discovered the bar yet! So, in the end, no one misses out. Instead, at a venue like The LC, all bases are covered so we’re all winners.

Healthy and happy! How could life be better than this!

NOTE: Dine at night and you miss out on Flora. When the big drawcard is having five plant-based venues under one roof, it’s a shame to have to pick your time to find them all open! Just saying…
