The Star Grazing Tour

During its Forty Days of Flavour held during March and April 2021, The Star shone a spotlight on food offerings at The Star Gold Coast and The Star Treasury Brisbane.

One of the specialty events was a four-course progressive dinner complete with wine pairings, showcasing signature dishes from four of The Star’s best restaurants. Think ultimate progressive street party and imagine yourself walking around some of the Gold Coast’s most popular dining experiences, all under one roof!

Greeted by bar staff at Nineteen at The Star in The Darling‘s elite tower, a glass of Ruinart got the night off on the right note.

Executive Chef Uday Huja himself introduced our first course, a trio of Appellation oysters prepared in three ways, paired with a glass of Moet Chandon champagne. It was a great start to the dinner with premium quality fare. Chef Uday told us that by subscribing to Appellation Oysters, Nineteen at The Star benefits from a collective quality grading program that selects the best quality oysters available each day. Who could argue!

‘Ready to be led down the garden path?’

Then we were on the move to our second restaurant, Garden Kitchen & Bar for our second course, six succulent scallops accompanied by taramasalata and the crisp Cape Mentelle Semillon Sauvignon Blanc.

At the exotic Kiyomi, Chef Winson Law presented his inside skirt steak with king brown mushrooms and a glass of Adelaide Hills’ full-bodied Shaw and Smith Shiraz. It was a triumph!

Cucina Vivo, situated alongside Kiyomi on the upper level of dining venues, presented the fourth stop on our food journey where drama unfolded. Fittingly for Easter, a tray of Italian-inspired chocolate domes were distributed, one to each diner.

A work of art, each chocolate dome was filled with house-made vanilla gelati sitting on a pistachio biscuit base. Then some action as a waiter poured grappa-infused chocolate fudge into each bowl, the cylinder becoming a molten delight. A glass of Spain’s El Candado Pedro Ximinez sherry accompanied the smashing dessert, bringing our dining to a sweet close.

The evening was not yet over, another adventure awaiting us: a hidden bar, a secret phone number and we entered The Star’s latest venue, Veladora.

In the dimly lit sexy Mexican-inspired speakeasy, behind the bar is a Mexican Madonna, Our Lady of Guadalupe meets Marilyn Monroe battling with her skirt as the ripple of adventure thrills the crowd.

Our cocktail, Midnight in Cancun, was a heady mix of tequila, Don Julio Blanco tequila, Woodford bourbon, agave nectar and lime.

The Star Gazing Tour was a fabulous way to get a taste of five exciting venues in the rapidly growing complex of The Star Gold Coast. Strangers became friends as the night progressed, and we decided to look out for more ways to take part in The Star’s 40 Days of Flavour.

NOTE: The Star Grazing Tour, a four-course progressive degustation around The Star, cost $145pp. Good Food Gold Coast dined as a guest of The Star.
