Although it’s been over thirty-three years since Pat and Karl Horner started their bakery, the business is still in the family, with son Robert now the proprietor and another family member the baker’s apprentice. Horner’s proudly boasts that everything except the beef jerky is baked on the premises and locals travel from far and wide to buy their favourite items.
Besides the range of breads such as ciabatta baked daily, there are specialty breads: award winning Austrian rye breads baked on Tuesday and Friday, both Pana de casa (white sourdough) and Olive and rosemary ciabatta are baked on Saturday. There are pies and pasties available, including sought after gourmet pies such as Thai chicken curry or Sri Lankan lamb pies. Racks on one side of the shop house freshly packeted homemade biscuits: linzer cookies shaped like stars, choc chip, delicious melting moments and crisp small Florentines. There is a mouth-watering range of patisserie: fresh smaller cakes and bars such as lemon sour cream cake, orange poppyseed cake, baked cheesecakes and fruit cake, as well as larger more decorative cakes suitable for special occasions.
Specialty cakes, such as children’s birthday and novelty cakes, can be made to order. Try Horner’s new range of gateaux: Belgium Milk Chocolate Mousse, Raspberry and White Chocolate Mousse, and Mango and Passionfruit Mousse! Weddings, parties, anything catered for! Don’t be put off by the busy arterial road out the front; there’s usually plenty of parking available around the shopping centre and Horner’s top quality and well-priced food is well worth the stop.
