One of Gold Coast’s longest-standing restaurants, Mario’s Italian Restaurant, turned 30 years old in August, marking the occasion with a huge family-style banquet.
“It’s all about family and togetherness, while paying homage to family traditions,” says co-owner Marlon Pirie.
From its humble beginnings in the late 1980s to its recent elegant refurbishment, Mario’s Italian Restaurant has stood the test of time and is one of the most respected, long-standing restaurants on the Gold Coast.
Having welcomed families through their doors with open arms for three decades, Mario’s commemorated the occasion with a nod to the establishment’s Italian roots by transforming the restaurant into a traditional Italian family feast.
Maureen and Mick Gleeson have been regulars since Mario’s opened its doors in 1989 – alongside the Oasis Shopping Centre – and have celebrated many milestones with their family at the restaurant over the years.
“We’ve celebrated an 18th, 21st, 50th and 60th at Mario’s and this year will be a 70th,” Mrs Gleeson said.
“Every Sunday without fail, we’d have lunch at the restaurant and got to know other couples who would filter in throughout the afternoon,” she said.
“I’m a huge fan of Mario’s Restaurant and without it, we would not have made the friendships that we have today.”
Part-owners Paul and Maria Ierna, who have been involved with Mario’s since the beginning, said they owe the success of the business to their loyal customers and staff.
“We are very blessed to have so many regulars who have been coming here since they were kids and now bringing their little ones and new extended families,” Mr Ierna said.
“The longevity of the restaurant is a testament to our staff and customers, and we can’t thank everyone enough for helping Mario’s become the success it is today.”
“Three decades in this industry is an amazing accomplishment and what better way to celebrate than by embracing our Italian heritage,” said part-owner Andrew Dimattina, who has worked in the industry for over 20 years.
“We really hold ourselves to a high standard and want to continue delivering this level of service to our customers for a long time.
“Here’s to 30 years with 30 more to come. Buon Compleanno, Mario’s!”
