Dietician Susie Burrell has been working with family-owned company, Mayver’s to encourage more people to eat well and include nuts and natural spreads in their diets.

In general Australians eat far too much salt from their high intake of fast and processed foods. An easy way to minimise the salt we consume is to seek out unsalted varieties of dietary staples including sauces, stocks and nut spreads.

For children, particularly, it is important to minimise the added salt in their diet because the less salt they consume when they are young, the less they will seek out as they grow older.

That’s why Susie has created delicious and healthy low-salt recipes including Banana Nut Bites, Peanut Butter Bircher and Banana Nut Loaf.

Susie says that it’s important to include kids in the kitchen to encourage healthy eating choices at a young age. She has provided her top three mum-hacks on ‘how to get picky eaters to eat more fruit and veg’.

Susie’s top three mum-hacks for picky eaters:

Tip 1: Involve them in cooking and baking healthy treats.

Tip 2: Have a fun activity looking at all the different types of fruit and veggies and holding your own taste test.

Tip 3: Pack delicious and healthy on-the-go snacks. Make your own sandwich and toast bars with a range of toppings and spreads.

All Mayver’s natural peanut butters are vegan and made from all natural ingredients, with no added oil, sugar, gluten, dairy, cholesterol or hardened fats. They are also a great source of good fats, protein and key nutrients including potassium and magnesium.
